Thailand Tuk Tuk Challenge
Charities are finding new and innovative ways of raising money to help those less fortunate in our world. It is not uncommon to see people climbing mountains, cycling across the country, running marathons and getting sponsored to stay awake all night, but when was the last time you heard of a Charity taking up the challenge of driving 1,000 miles in Tuk Tuk’s? Do you even know what a Tuk Tuk is? A Tuk Tuk is a small three-wheeled motor cart which can be used by individuals, but you are more likely to see it being used as a taxi in many Asian countries.
The Rose Education Foundation will drive their Tuk Tuk’s 1,000 miles in teams of two from Chiang Rai in the North of Thailand, down to Bangkok, Pattaya and on to Phuket to raise money for Rahab ministries in Thailand. Rahab is an incredible project that offers girls trapped in Thailands sex industry an opportunity to escape and be given the skills to find a sustainable job. The Rose Education Foundation has already raised money for an English Language Centre, Library and IT suite at the centre which opened in July this year. The Rose Education Foundation now wants to help Rahab develop new areas of ministry to create further sustainable job opportunities for the girls they work with.
Are you up for the challenge?
We are taking expressions of interest from people that want to join us for the Tuk Tuk mission trip which will take place in the second half of 2010. Flights and accommodation should be around £850 and you will need to raise a minimum of £500 each (£1,000 per tuk tuk). If you work for a local charity you can come along and split any money you raise, over the £500, 50-50 between your charity and the REF.
